The Art Of Motocross Design & What I Can Create

While I can design for clients in any industry, motocross design is one of my areas of specialization. During my years as a designer for Fox Racing, I created all types of motocross gear. Crafting motocross gear is unique, there’s truly nothing else like it in the action sports world. It provides a designer with the opportunity to combine fit, function and graphics altogether in one amazing product. Here’s a look at what I can create for anyone needing a custom motocross designer.

Motocross Gear

Motocross gear is unique, and few other sports require the amount of specialized riding gear needed by riders and this includes protective pants, jerseys and gloves, all of which I can provide as a motocross designer. If you are building a brand, I can help develop a line of gear or simply create gear for your team.

Motocross Boots

As a designer, I have created footwear for multiple brands and understand the complexity and requirements regarding motocross boots. Providing the ultimate protection and comfort is key, as a great design means nothing if the boot isn’t functional and strong. As a motocross rider and designer, I truly understand the importance of designing a comfortable boot that protects your feet, ankles and calves.

Motocross Helmets & Goggles

While style is always important, helmets are your best defense against injury. After all, crashing is an inevitable part of the sport and riders need maximum protection. That said, there’s no reason not to wear stylish helmets and goggles, and I can create whatever custom graphics you might want to display on your helmet and goggles.

Motocross Protectors

Body armor protects a rider from injuries due to crash as well as from chunks of earth and rock that often get thrown up during a rough ride. I can design roost protectors, (also known as chest protectors and back protectors) that combine style with fit and function. If you need designs for knee braces, kidney belts, elbow & wrist protectors and neck braces, we can work on designs for those pieces of protective gear, as well.

The Bike

Ok, I don’t actually design the bikes, I’ll leave that to the engineers at KTM, Yamaha Honda, but I do design the custom bike graphics and wraps for your bike. Whether you rock a KTM 450 or a vintage Maico, I will create a bold design that features your brand or team name with whatever artistic elements and colors that appeals to you.

In addition to Motocross design, I can design gear for virtually any sport, so whether you need BMX gear, skateboarding design, snowboarding & skiing design, mountain biking or any other sport, give me a call and let’s get started on your project.

Landing Page Design Services: Creating Effective Webpages

Your website is often a customer’s first link to your company, and your main landing page provides you with an opportunity to make a fantastic first impression. On the other hand, if your landing page features a poor design, you might have just wasted that opportunity. Professional landing page design services can help you avoid some common web design mistakes, and as I design your landing pages, I keep the following in mind.

1. Grab Their Attention

Do you know the average time on site for your website? If people click on your ads but only spend two or three seconds on your landing page before moving on to someone else’s website, you aren’t really grabbing their attention. With professional landing page design services, I aim to design a landing page that captivates users immediately.

Typically, this is achieved by the use of a clever logo and attractive images as well as a catchy headline. You want your headline and subhead (if needed) to be short and to the point, quickly communicating why your services or products are beneficial to the consumer.

2. Call Customers To Action

For many companies, a call-to-action button or form is an essential tool on a main landing page. You might wish to have people purchase your service or subscribe to your email list. I can design a landing page that entices your potential customers and makes it easy for them to sign up for a service, purchase your product or sign up for your email list.

3. Simplicity Speaks Volumes

Have you ever visited a webpage where the designer has decided that it’s easy to read bright green text on a red background? Or perhaps a website where the designer has featured 15 different typefaces, none of which is particularly readable?  These poorly designed webpages are an immediate turn off for consumers. If you overload their senses, it can be difficult for anyone to truly understand your message.

4. Design With Consistency

Every page of your website should feature a consistent theme with the same navigational style, the same typefaces and fonts and perhaps even the same colors. You might have different images for different pages, but the entire website should function as one cohesive unit.

5. Create Easy-To-Use Designs

These days, people expect to see a website with easy-to-use navigation. As I design your main landing page, I might design helpful tabs at the top or perhaps the bottom of the page (or both) to make it simple for customers to find just what they need. If a customer can’t find what they need quickly and easily, they are likely to stop looking and simply find another company to provide a product or service. Making it easy for customers to find products, detailed information about services, shipping information and other helpful facts is essential.

When it comes to landing page design services, I can craft a design for your homepage and for any additional landing pages that you might have on your website. I have extensive experience in a wide range of industries, so if you need landing page design or any other type of graphic design service, give me a call or send an email today.

Logo Design Services: 6 Steps To An Effective Logo

While creating a great product or service is the main focus of any business, your logo can have a huge impact in the success of your company. After all, this image appears on your products, your website, advertising materials and much more. Professional logo design services can set you apart from the competition and help you build a solid brand image.

As I begin to create a new logo for a client, I always keep a few key elements in mind, including:

1. Design For The Audience

Who will be using this product or service? What is important to this group? These are questions I ask myself before beginning any logo design project. It is essential to understand the audience in order to create a design that appeals to that unique group. Certain audiences will appreciate an edgier design while others will appreciate something classic and upscale and others want something with a retro vibe.

2. Logo Design Services Should Complement The Product

In addition to understanding the audience, a good logo designer also needs to understand the product and the company. The logo design for a gym that caters to CrossFit enthusiasts will look far different than a logo design for a financial services firm, even if you are targeting the same general age group. After all, a person is in a different mindset when they are searching for a fitness center then when they are looking for someone to help them with financial planning.

3. Keep The Design Simple

Too often, I see logo designs that include a myriad of images and several different typefaces. Another common issue would be using too many colors or colors that don’t really complement one another. A simple design is far more likely to attract attention than a cluttered or busy design. Logo designs with too many elements in play tend to come off as amateurish rather than sophisticated.

4. Timeless Is Better Than Trendy

While current trends are fun and popular, if I focus on trendy logo design, my customer will end up with a design that will eventually look dated and dull very quickly. For my logo design services, I focus on creating an image that will stand the test of time. I also work to create a logo that can be updated, if needed, without drastically altering the overall image. This keeps the brand image solid and strong and makes it easy for customers to recognize the brand even if you alter it a bit.

5. Logo Design Should Be Versatile

Your logo should appear on virtually everything a customer might see; your products to advertisements to business cards and even promo items such as t-shirts and hats. Therefore, you need a logo design that works well in multiple sizes. It should be something that looks fantastic whether we shrink it down to place on your letterhead or blow up for a giant billboard.

If you need logo design services, contact me at any time. I have worked with a wide range of clientele, including restaurants & bars, clothing designers, footwear designers, music schools, motocross companies, food & beverage companies, hair stylists, fitness centers, real estate firms and many more.

5 Essential Product Design Tips

All great products were once great ideas, and if you have the idea but aren’t sure how to transform an idea into a real product, I can help. One of my specialties is helping companies design new products as well as the packaging that goes along with it. This can be a complicated adventure, but the process flows more smoothly if you keep the following tips in mind along the way.

1. Know Your Audience

While some products appeal to a wide range of consumers, most products appeal to a more specific group. For instance, you might be designing an athletic shoe targeted mainly at young men, from about age 15 to 25. Perhaps you wish to create an upscale vodka aimed at young professionals or maybe a helpful product geared toward families with young children.

Understanding the audience can help you create a product that truly speaks to the consumer’s needs and desires. Do a bit of market research to determine the values that are important to your specific audience, and keep those in mind as we go through the product design process.

2. Study The Competition

Studying your competitor’s products is essential and ensures that your product design can compete in the marketplace. Take notes about what your competitors are doing well and areas where they fall short.  Look for ways to improve upon their strengths and identify how your product can be a better option for consumers. During our initial meeting, you will be sharing plenty of information about your product, but be sure also to provide me with information about your competitors and your target audience.

3. Think About Your Mission

Obviously, making a profit is important, but as a company or a business owner, you have values and goals beyond the money. Perhaps you are committed to using organic materials or ingredients, or perhaps you are committed to helping a special cause. These days, consumers also are attracted to companies with a strong corporate social responsibility plan. If a portion of your profits is dedicated to helping a specific group or groups, we can address that during the design process. While the quality of your product is what draws consumers back to your product time and time again, many people will try a product initially because you are a socially responsible company.

4. Think About Function, Form & Quality

While an eye-catching, memorable design attracts attention, product design should not just be about aesthetics. Your product serves a purpose, and the design should reflect that. Too often, companies focus more on creating a clever design than they do on creating a functional, useful and well-made product. Top-notch product design should be able to accomplish these goals. Together, we can create a product that appeals to consumer while at the same time providing them with a useful, high quality product.

5. Don’t Forget About Packaging Design

For some products, such a clothing design or shoe design or perhaps a product that needs little packaging, this might not be a huge concern. However, if your product will be placed in a box or bottle or another type of container, packaging design should be a huge consideration, and I can help with this process, as well. When it comes to packaging design, the same ideas apply as do with product design. You need to study your audience and competitors and provide consumers with a pleasing package design that attracts attention while providing them with helpful information about your product.

If you need product design services, give me a call or send an email today. I have extensive experience with product design and development as well as packaging design, and would love to talk about your unique product.

9 Essential Graphic Design Services I Provide

Sometimes people are bit confused as to what the term “graphic design services” actually encompasses. While each graphic design company is unique, my list of graphic design services is quite extensive and it includes the following:

1. Logo Design

For many projects, it all begins with a great logo design and this is often the first step with many graphic design projects. A great logo can build your brand image, set the tone for your company and set you apart from the competition. I have designed logos for just about every type of company imaginable, and always love the challenge of creating a new logo.

2. Packaging Design

While some of my clients provide a service, others sell a unique product and these products definitely need the attention of a professional graphic designer. One of the graphic design services I offer is the creation of eye-catching, dynamic packaging design. While you might have a fantastic product, the design of your package can be the reason why a customer pulls your product off the shelf instead of opting for an item sold by your competitor.

3. Product Design

In some cases, you have a fantastic idea for a product, but haven’t actually designed the product itself. You might be surprised to learn that this, too, is one of the graphic design services I can provide. In our initial meeting, we can discuss your project in detail and begin to brainstorm ideas for product design. I have extensive experience in creating quality product designs for several industries, so if you are dreaming up a product, give me a call and together we can work out a fantastic design.

4. Clothing Design

Clothing design is a service that many graphic design studios do not provide, but I also have extensive experience in the clothing industry and have created original clothing designs for surf and sportswear companies. Whether you need a full product line or you simply need to create a cool custom design for basic t-shirts and promotional gear, such as hats, I can help with these types of design projects.

5. Shoe Design

Building a brand isn’t easy, and the clothing and footwear markets are highly competitive. If you are looking to expand into footwear, give me a call. I have the experience needed to create many different styles of footwear, as well as clothing.

6. Sports Apparel Design

For many years, I worked at Fox Racing, a leader in the world of motocross. During my time there, I concentrated on designing highly complex motocross gear. If you need motocross gear, I definitely have the experience needed to complete the task, however, I also can create other types of gear for other sports, and I truly understand the intricacies of designing gear that protects your customers while still focusing on style and aesthetics.

7. Promotional Design

For many businesses, it’s a good idea to think about promotional design as this is a cheap and effortless way to spread your brand image. For instance, think about the power of a bumper sticker. If your sticker has an eye-catching design, this attracts attention and people will be interested in learning more about your business. These are great options for clothing and footwear lines, restaurants & bars, vehicle repair shops, surf shops and retail stores just to name a few.

Many businesses will sell the stickers for a nominal price as well as selling a t-shirt or sweatshirt with their logo design, and while these sales might net a small profit, having someone drive around with your sticker on their vehicle or wearing your custom promotional t-shirt is a fantastic and inexpensive form of advertising. Creating items such as mouse pads or custom calendars or notepads are other options that will be used often, constantly reminding potential customers about your product or company.

8. Advertisement Design

If you need a poster for an upcoming event or an advertisement for your business for any type of periodical, this is yet another graphic design service I offer. You typically only have seconds to attract someone’s attention as they flip through the pages of the paper or a magazine, and a dynamic graphic design can grab someone’s attention and make them take a second look.

9. Business Design Services

While every business needs a great logo, it also pays to add this logo to all of your printed materials. This includes letterhead, invoices and envelopes as well as promotional sales packets, business cars and just about anything else you can imagine. This is an inexpensive way to give your business a professional edge. Additionally, I can create a design for eye-catching business signage and banners.

These are just a few of the graphic design services that I provide, and if you need any of these services, don’t hesitate to contact me at any time. Simply fill out the quick form on my Contact page and I will get back you as soon as possible.

4 Things To Do Before Hiring A Graphic Designer

As a professional graphic designer, I’ve worked with a multitude of clients from a variety of industries. While each product, service and company is unique, there are a few basic tasks that should be considered prior to giving me a call, including the following.

1. Think About What You Need

As a full-service graphic designer, I can provide you with virtually any design service you might need including logo design, packaging design, product design and even clothing and shoe design.

For many clients, my job begins by creating a logo or brand image. This image can be used on letterhead, business cards, envelopes, invoices and other printed materials, as well as being featured on your website and on any type of promo item. This might include items such as customized clothing, stickers, posters and advertisements for magazines and newspapers.

Before, you come to our first meeting, compile a list of what you need me to accomplish. We can always add to the list or modify the list, but having an initial game plan is always a good idea.

2. Compile Some Information

While you might not know exactly how you want a design to look, you probably can find some examples of designs that speak to you and the image you wish to project to the world. Bring some examples of designs and logos that you love, but don’t forget to also include a few designs or design elements that you don’t like. We can save a great deal of time if I have a clear picture of your likes and dislikes.

In addition, I also need a bit of information about your product or services. For instance, it helps to know some facts about your target audience. After all, design choices I make for a product targeted at 20-year-olds might be quite different from what I would design for a target audience 50 and older. It also helps to understand your company mission and goals and what values are important to you. All of this information helps me to craft designs that truly complement your company.

3. Establish A Budget

Hiring a professional graphic designer can be very cost effective. For one thing, when you allow me to handle your design tasks, it leaves you free to concentrate with other aspects of your business. I also know design tricks and techniques that can reduce printing costs and production costs.

While I can find many ways to save you money, it does help if you have crunched some numbers prior to our first meeting. Bringing in an estimated budget can be very helpful, and gives me an idea of what types of design solutions will be the best fit for your needs.

4. Establish A Timeline

Too often, people put graphic design on the back burner and wait until the last minute to think about their logo and product design. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and good graphic design takes more than a day. While I certainly can work quickly, you do need to be realistic about your timeline. The first step of creating the actual design tends to take the longest, and it’s really the most important part of the design journey. Once we have agreed on a design, we can begin scheduling printing and production. While it takes more than a couple of days to complete a project, it does help if I have an idea of your general deadline. If it isn’t realistic, I can let you know how long I think it will take to complete all of the items on your list. As a good rule of thumb, you should be prepared for the design process to last several weeks to a month, but it can take more or less time, depending on the scope of the project.

My experience includes creating designs for surf brands, clothing companies, motocross brands, fine wine & liquors, restaurants & bars, shoe manufacturers, music schools, gyms & fitness centers, and a wide range of retailers. Take a look at some samples of my work, and if you are ready to hire a professional graphic designer, feel free to give me a call or send an email at any time.

1. Find A Fresh Perspective

Even if you are a newer business, a call to Todd Covey Designs can help bring in a fresh perspective. I can take a look at your product or business and come up with design concepts that truly personify your image, mission and brand.

3. Create A Consistent Message

If you have multiple products, each of these might need a different package design or logo. However, in order to build your brand image, these designs all need to be consistent and fluid. For instance, perhaps you produce craft beer. While one variety might be quite different from another, you want customers to recognize that the relationship between these varieties. Typically, if a customer enjoys one of your products, they will search for other options, so a consistent brand message is imperative. I can create a product design or logo design for multiple products that showcases the unique qualities of each product yet still ties in with your overall brand image.

4. Stand Out From The Crowd

While your product and services might be better than that of your competition, enticing customers to your business can be tricky. Eye-catching and relevant design can draw new customers and encourage them to select your product or service rather than a competitor. At Todd Covey Designs, the goal is to create a design that looks completely unique, setting you apart from the competition.

5. Save Time & Money

You might understand the importance of great design and have some fantastic ideas, but do you really have time to devote to design? As a business owner, your day is full of crucial tasks and spending time with logo design, letterhead design, product design or promotional displays might not be the best use of that time. Using a professional graphic artist, such as Todd Covey Designs, can ensure that your design project is professional, attractive and completed on time and on budget, leaving you free to handle important management tasks instead.

Additionally, when it comes to printing, a professional graphic designer knows the most cost-effective ways to reduce printing and production costs. At Todd Covey Designs, I have had extensive experience with all aspects of graphic design, product design and packaging design and can find the most cost-effective production methods.
